Road Closures in City of Sanford for the Fall

Road Closures for Weekend of 11/8- 11/10

Beginning this Saturday, November 8th, Project Sanford will move their weekly market, scheduled from 10 am to 3 pm, from Magnolia Square to Palmetto Avenue, with closure of Palmetto Avenue, from 1st Street to Commercial Street, from 7 am until 4 pm.  We anticipate the Market moving back to the Square at the beginning of 2026

The unscheduled move of Project Sanford’s Marketplace on Magnolia, is necessary as the City of Sanford and the Community Redevelopment Agency continue their construction progress on the 2nd Street Streetscape Improvement Project, which is now 56% complete.  While construction focuses on this section of 2nd Street for the next 6-8 weeks, access to Magnolia Avenue (from Magnolia Square to 2nd Street) and the parking lot between Magnolia Avenue and Park Avenue, will only be accessible via alleyway on the east side of Willow Tree Café.  1st Street merchants will need to schedule deliveries, catering vehicles, waste pro pickup and staff parking through the alleyway or make other arrangements.

Some planned events will proceed in the Square and on Magnolia Avenue, from 1st Street to 2nd Street, as planned, including:

  • Thursday, December 4th Hollerbach’s Krampusnacht event, from 5 – 9 pm, will close Magnolia Avenue, from the Square to 2nd Street, from 9 am – 11pm with no access to Magnolia Avenue after noon.
  • Friday, December 5th Light Up Sanford event, from 6 – 8 pm,  will close Magnolia Avenue, from the Square to 2nd Street, from 8 am – 9:30 pm with no access to Magnolia Avenue after 3 pm.
  • Thursday, December 11th Sanford Joyfest event, from 6 – 8, will close Magnolia Avenue, from the Square to 2nd Street, from noon – 9 pm with no public access to Magnolia Avenue after noon.

This weekend, the Festival Puertorriqueno, scheduled from 11 am – 9 pm, will occur in the Opportunity Site and at the Sanford Civic Center; and the Magnolia Fall Festival, , scheduled from 11 am – 5 pm, will occur at Dees Brothers Brewery.   With both Palmetto Avenue closed for the Market and Sanford Avenue closed for the Festival, the Streets Department will provide a boat traffic detour route from 1st and Palmetto, to Park Avenue, to Commercial Street and back to Palmetto.  Sunday, November 9th is Sanford Food Truck Fiesta BARKSGIVING – a Pints N’ Paws Reboot from 1-6 pm.

Update 10/13/2025

DB Civil will be opening the detours at 8th Street & Melloville Avenue and Celery Avenue & Brisson Avenue on Wednesday, October 15th, during the afternoon hours, weather permitting. All associated signage, special emphasis striping, and ADA-compliant mats will be installed at both locations.

Please note that sodding at 8th Street and Brisson Avenue will be completed at a later date due to current weather conditions preventing sod cutting in the fields. This delay will not impact pedestrian access or public use of the newly constructed crosswalks.

Pedestrian access at the Brisson Avenue crosswalk will be limited. Pedestrians should cross Celery Avenue at Santa Fe Lane to reach Brisson Avenue, as a new trail is under construction along the north side of Celery Avenue between Santa Fe and Brisson.

Vehicular traffic will have full access to the newly constructed crosswalks.

Additionally, the start date for the Celery Key and Celery Avenue detour has been rescheduled from Monday, October 13th to Thursday, October 16th. This detour will not be implemented until the Celery Avenue & Brisson Avenue detour is fully open to traffic.
