 City of Sanford’s Year End Community Events and Programs

SANFORD, FL – A destination City in Central Florida known for its special events, exemplary art, live entertainment, craft breweries and distilleries, and enticing offerings for every palate – a vibrant City with something for everyone! The City of Sanford sponsors many free, community events that celebrate the spirit of our Friendly City!  Mark your calendar now for these upcoming events so you don’t miss one!

Fangtastic Fest2 – 5 pm on Sunday, October 27th at the Jeff Triplett Community Center.  Show off your favorite costume at the Fangtastic Fest on Sunday, October 27th at 2 pm!  Join us for a not-so-scary Trick-or-Treat event where kids 12 and under can show off their costumes and enjoy exciting contests, entertainment, inflatables, and more! Bring a goodie bag to collect all the delicious candy and cool trinkets! Costume contests for ages 0-3 at 2:30 pm, 4-6 at 3:00 pm, 7-9 at 3:30 pm, 10-12 at 4:00 pm and family at 4:30 pm.

49th Annual Golden Age Games – November 1-3.  The Senior Games movement f irst started in Florida when the Golden Age Games were created in Sanford. Soon after, local and State Senior Games events began appearing nationwide, especially throughout Florida. This year, the City of Sanford is offering competitions for track & field, swimming, table tennis, basketball, archery, golf, and pickleball for those young-at-heart, or specifically those aged 50+.

28th Annual Toys for Tots Soap Box Derby Rally – 8 am on Saturday, November 2nd at Mike Kirby Park.  Race for a cause and bring joy to children at the Central Florida Soap Box Derby’s 28th Annual Toys for Tots Rally at 8 am on November 2nd!  Race enthusiasts compete in Stock, Superstock, and Master Classes. Pre-registration is required. New, unwrapped toys may be donated at City Hall as well as Mike Kirby Park on Rally Days.

Veterans Day Ceremony – 11 am on Monday, November 11th at Veterans Memorial Park.  Join us at the Veterans Memorial Park as we pay tribute to our brave and selfless veterans.

Holiday Open House – 9 am – 4 pm on Saturday, November 30th at the Sanford Museum.  We are delighted to invite all children to join us for a day of creativity and fun! Enjoy exciting crafts like coloring Dala Horses, making German feather trees, and decorating top hats. Plus, don’t miss our guided tours.

Light Up Sanford – Tree Lighting Ceremony –  6:30 pm on Friday, December 6th in Magnolia Square.  Join us for a magical night at Light Up Sanford, the City’s Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, December 6 at 6:30 pm. Experience the enchantment of the Magnolia Square Christmas Tree and downtown as we illuminate the night. Get ready for holiday entertainment, a visit from Ol’ Saint Nick, his helpers, and more!

Sanford Senior Center’s Holiday Party – 11 am- 1 pm on Tuesday, December 10th at the Sanford Civic Center.  Celebrate the Holidays with friends, from 11 am – 1 pm, on Tuesday, December 10th at the Sanford Senior Center.  This festive luncheon, sponsored by the City of Sanford Senior Center and Mobile Access, will feature delicious food, exciting raffle prizes, and live music for our guests who are 50 years old or older.

Holiday Parade of Lights  –  6 pm on Saturday, December 14th on 1st Street, Downtown Sanford.  Join us on Saturday, December 14th at 6 pm for the spectacular “Holiday Parade of Lights” in Downtown Sanford! Witness illuminated floats, dazzling vehicles, vibrant dance groups, and marching bands by local schools, businesses and community organizations showcasing their holiday spirit along the one-mile route.

Santa in the Square  –  6 pm on Wednesday, December 18th in Magnolia Square.  Santa and his merry helpers are dropping by Magnolia Square with Santa’s list in hand!  Children of all ages are invited for an evening of holiday cheer.  Don’t miss out on meeting our fun, interactive holiday characters.

Central Florida Soap Box Derby’s Holiday Derby Rally.  8:30 am on Saturday & Sunday, December 28th and 29th at Mike Kirby Park.  Rev up your excitement for the Central Florida Soap Box Derby Holiday Rally! Join us on December 28-29 at Mike Kirby Park to ride out 2024 with one double and one single elimination race each day! Gear up now and register for an unforgettable weekend!

Jr. Magic Basketball

Youth basketball Clinic, presented by the Orlando Magic, at the Dr. Velma H. Williams Westside Community Center on Wednesday, October 30th 4 – 5:30 pm.  This program is open to ages 7 to 17, and players of all skills are welcome to join.

 League Play begins December 5th – February 10th at the Dr. Velma H. Williams Westside Community Center.  The City of Sanford is a proud Jr. Magic partner, and our league provides play for children aged 5 to 14. Players will learn teamwork, sportsmanship and skills on the court.
