To register your golf cart with the City of Sanford, please follow these steps:
Complete the Application
Visit City Hall at 300 N. Park Ave. or bring your completed application in person. Link to Application
- Registration Fee: $25.00
- Driver’s License
- Golf Cart: Must be present for inspection
- Proof of Insurance: Optional
- Proof of Ownership/Affidavit: Bring if applicable
- Payment: No cash accepted on Fridays for registration or renewal
Note: Golf cart registrations expire on January 31st of each year and must be renewed annually.
2. Golf Cart Inspections – City Hall
This inspection can be completed by a Community Service Officer, who will be available for golf cart inspections on Thursdays between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM at City Hall. Your golf cart must be present at City Hall for the inspection. Once you complete the registration process, you will be given a registration sticker to place on your golf cart.
Renewal:
To renew your City of Sanford golf cart registration, pay $25.00 for your golf cart registration renewal at the City of Sanford Utilities Department located at 300 N. Park Ave. Please have your golf cart registration number available. Then the Utilities Department staff will issue you the golf cart registration renewal sticker.

- Golf Cart: No need to bring the golf cart for renewal

Golf Cart Operations:
- Registered golf carts operating on the roadways must follow all of the same traffic laws as a regular vehicle, and are subject to the same penalties (citations, warnings, or criminal charges).
- Operating an unregistered golf cart on the roadway is a criminal traffic offense.
- Golf cart operators must be at least 16 years of age and licensed.
- Infants through age three must be in a federally approved child restraint device, and children four to five years of age must be restrained with a seat-belt.
- Operating a registered golf cart outside of the permitted zone is a criminal traffic offense.
