Thank you for your interest in the City of Sanford’s Adopt-A-Park, -Bench, and -Road Programs, coordinated by the Parks and Recreation Department. This initiative encourages community participation to actively enhance the beauty and functionality of Sanford’s public spaces – our parks, trails, trailheads and natural lands – through your volunteer efforts, donations, and sponsorships. Your involvement represents a meaningful investment in the well-being and pride of our community.
The program offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to participate in the care and improvement of our parks, public benches, and roadways. Participants may contribute by helping with general clean-up, landscaping, or beautification efforts; donating amenities such as benches or signage; or sponsoring larger improvement projects, including playground equipment, athletic field enhancements, or the development of new recreational features.
This collaborative program promotes community engagement, fosters civic pride, and strengthens partnerships between the City and its residents. Through the Adopt-A-Park, Bench, and Road Program, the City of Sanford is able to extend the impact of its resources, enriching the quality and accessibility of public spaces for all who live in and visit our community.
See below for more information on each program or call us at 407.688.5103.

Give a lasting gift or honor a loved one with the City of Sanford’s Adopt-A-Bench program. Your donation provides a bench—engraved with a personalized message—for installation at select city parks and trails.
Choose from scenic locations like Sanford Riverwalk, Goldsboro Trail, Terwilliger Trail, Ft. Mellon Park, Historic Downtown Sanford, one of trails, near a garden or in another City park. Limited benches available—don’t miss this unique opportunity!
By adopting a bench, you’re not only creating a lasting tribute—you’re enhancing our parks and contributing to the beauty of Sanford. Your donation may qualify as a charitable tax deduction (see IRS Publication #526).
Guidelines for Adopt-A-Bench Program:

How It Works:
- Submit your application to the Parks & Recreation Office at 300 N. Park Avenue, Sanford, FL for review and final approval.
- Choose your option:

- $1,500 to install a new bench
- Applicant is welcome to suggest a new bench location, but the final decision remains with the Parks & Recreation Department.

- Benches have an expected lifespan of approximately 10 years, based on commercial-grade standards. Bench condition will be evaluated and graded solely by the Parks & Recreation Department.
- The City reserves the right to relocate or remove benches as needed, including for future park development.
