When a storm approaches, sandbags are one of the most effective ways to protect your doorways, garage, and low-lying entry points from rising water.
To keep things running smoothly, the City of Sanford establishes a centralized, high-volume sandbag distribution site to help residents secure their properties quickly and safely.
Here is everything you need to know about how the operation works:
📍 The Location
When operations are officially activated, all sandbag distribution takes place at:
Note: Please refer to our official traffic flow map below before heading out. Specific entry and exit routes will be enforced to prevent neighborhood gridlock and keep lines moving as quickly as possible.
🛠️ How It Works: What We Provide vs. What You Need
What the City Provides: We provide the empty bags and the sand at no cost to residents.
What You Need to Bring: Bring your own shovel! This is a self-service site, so you will need to fill your own bags.
The Limit: There is a strict limit of 10 sandbags per vehicle. This ensures we have enough inventory to help as many of your neighbors as possible.
No Delivery: The City does not deliver sandbags to individual residences.
☀️ A Note on “Blue Sky” Planning
Don’t wait for a Storm Warning to make your plan. Because this is a self-service operation, filling and moving sandbags requires some heavy lifting.
If you or a loved one are physically unable to fill or transport heavy bags, please make arrangements right now. Reach out to neighbors, family members, or local community groups today so you aren’t scrambling or left unprotected when the warnings go up and the rush begins.
