Exciting progress is taking place on Fulton Street as construction continues on the City’s new Public Works Administration Building. Following the successful completion of the grant-funded contamination remediation project at the site, the Public Works Department has moved into the next phase bringing its new administrative and emergency response facility to life.
The new facility is being designed and constructed to withstand a Category 4 hurricane, providing a secure location for Public Works personnel during major storm events. Having staff and critical resources positioned at the facility during a hurricane will allow the department to mobilize more quickly once conditions are safe, helping crews clear debris, open roadways, and restore access throughout the City following a storm.
During normal operations, the facility will serve as the central home for Public Works leadership and administrative staff, including the Director, Managers, Superintendents, and administrative team. The site will also provide protected storage for heavy equipment and other essential resources, helping safeguard City assets from the elements and ensuring equipment is ready when it is needed most.
The Public Works Department is working closely with Ovation Construction as the project continues to take shape. Each stage of construction brings the department one step closer to a facility designed to strengthen daily operations, protect valuable City resources, and improve the department’s ability to respond to the community during emergencies.
Construction is anticipated to be completed in September 2027, and the Public Works Department looks forward to watching this important investment in the City’s infrastructure and emergency preparedness come to life.
