Work is progressing steadily at Fort Mellon Park on both the new amphitheater and the Lake Carola seawall improvements.
Here is a breakdown of recent progress across the project site:
Seawall Construction & Lake Carola Improvements: All seawall panels are in place, and crews have poured roughly 95% of the concrete wall, with the majority of the top cap now formed.
Amphitheater & Hardscape: Construction of the main amphitheater structure is complete, and pavers have been fully set. Contractors are now placing polymeric sand in the joints to secure the paver surface. Additionally, connecting sidewalks between the seawall and the amphitheater are finished.
Audio-Visual & Technical Systems: Installation of the stage AV systems and video wall is underway. A change order was approved for a dedicated climate-controlled cabinet to protect the core AV equipment, and the team is awaiting delivery.
Landscaping & Site Prep: Fresh landscaping was planted on September 14. Crews are repairing existing irrigation systems, preparing the soil for sod, and grading the site for final cleanup.
Electrical & Utilities: Electrical contractors are pulling wire and tying in connections in preparation for power startup. Five backordered light poles will be set as soon as they arrive on-site.
Next Steps & Completion Timeline
City staff are addressing a minor engineering inquiry regarding surface cracking on the stage structure to ensure long-term durability. We are currently working with the project management team to finalize an updated overall completion timeline and expect to share an official completion target date soon.
