Artist Statement
“Sea Pours”
Collaboration with Mother Nature
The beauty of living a coastal life in Central Florida has been the inspiration for most of Patty’s loose, flowing watercolor paintings. The watercolor painting process allows her to explore the subject matter that inspires her creativity and passion for mixing color. She is known for her coastal, tropical, landscape paintings and currently is working on her latest paintings in collaboration with The Sea, titled “Sea Pours”. Nature gives this artist joy while she paints to capture the water’s edge, the movement of a palm tree, the atmosphere of the day, a moment in time.”
Patty paints almost exclusively plein air (outdoors). And if finishing touches are needed, they are made in her studio.
“Nature and painting outdoors (plein air) are the two biggest influences on Patty’s Sea Pour paintings. There is a presence at the shoreline where the ocean and the beach meet. To me, that is heaven. Process, Patty throw’s her watercolor paper in the ocean, let it float around and soak in the salty water until it is saturated. There is sand, shells, seaweed on the paper that plays a unique part in the making of the painting. Once the paper is taken out of the ocean and placed on the dry sand, she pours her watercolor paint on the paper and step back to watch the beauty of my collaboration with Mother Nature.”
The Commission Chambers is located on the first floor of City Hall 300 N. Park Ave.
