Join us to celebrate Florida’s Emancipation Day at Historic Hopper Academy from 10 AM – 2 PM on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
Join us for a meaningful and family-friendly celebration of Florida’s Emancipation Day at the Historic Hopper Academy. This free community event will include:
A live reading of the Emancipation Proclamation by a historical interpreter
A children’s art exhibit showcasing creative reflections on freedom
A screening of the documentary “Celebrating Freedom: Before Juneteenth, Emancipation in Florida”
An exhibit from UCF’s RICHES Digital Archiving Project highlighting the rich history of Georgetown and its residents
Information on the upcoming community garden and how you can get involved
An opportunity to connect with the League of Women Voters
