2023 Jingle Jam – RCN

      Special Notification of Road Closure(s)

                                            Jingle Jam

           7 AM – 10 PM on Saturday, December 16, 2023

The City Commission will be presented with the following Special Event Permit Request at the 7 PM Commission Meeting on October 9, 2023. If you have any comments that you would like the City Commission to review along with this request, please email them to Jennifer.Brooks@sanfordfl.gov.

Sanford Main Street, Inc. requests approval to host the 6th Annual Jingle Jam from noon – 7 PM on Saturday, December 16, 2023.  The event will feature the inclusion of all downtown merchants, live music, a vendor fair, a carnival-style kids zone, and great food and drinks.

This year, the event’s footprint has moved to 1st Street, from Myrtle Avenue to Sanford Avenue, and on Sanford Avenue, from 1st Street to 6th Street, with one stage located on Magnolia Avenue at 2nd Street and a carnival Kid Zone area in the West End parking lot on 2nd Street at Palmetto Avenue.  Utilizing 1st Street as event space will provide guests with wider, better-lit streets while avoiding the construction zones expected along 2nd Street Palmetto Avenue and Oak Avenue.

City staff has requested the closure of the arterial roads previously used as thoroughfares during this event.  Specifically, Staff requests that 3rd Street, at Sanford Avenue, and Park Avenue, at 1st Street, remain closed this year for the safety of both vehicular and pedestrian traffic safety.  Additionally, this change allows Park Avenue merchants, between 1st Street and 2nd Street, to participate in the event without hampering available parking in the City.  The intersections will remain clear, or with a vehicle that can quickly be moved for emergency access, if needed.

The applicant requested road closures to begin at 9 AM, however, staff requests the closure to begin at 7 AM with a warning barricade at each intersection and police officers fully closing the road upon their arrival at 9 AM.

The applicant rejected the Staff’s suggestion of continuing open containers throughout the event footprint until 10 PM.  The applicant hopes that, after 7 PM, our guests will visit the various restaurants, merchants, and entertainment venues in the City so the breakdown of the event space can be expedited as safely as possible.

The applicant requests a noise permit and an alcohol permit, for “Jingle Jam”, from NOON – 7 PM, on Saturday, December 16, 2023, with street closures from 7 AM – 10 PM of 1st Street, from Myrtle Avenue to Sanford Avenue; Magnolia Avenue, from Magnolia Square to 2nd Street; Oak Avenue, Park Avenue, and Palmetto Avenue, from Commercial Street to 2nd Street; Sanford Avenue, from 1st Street to 6th Street; and 2nd Street, 3rd Street, 4th Street, and 5th Street, from the alleyway east of Palmetto Avenue to the alleyway west of Cypress Avenue.  Additionally, an alcohol permit for open containers is also requested on Magnolia Avenue and Myrtle Avenue, from 3rd Street to 2nd Street, as well as on 4th Street, from Cypress to Sanford Avenue, for the inclusion of some businesses not included in the event footprint but who may want to participate with open container or sidewalk sales.
